Purple Heart Monument Dedication

Rio Rancho - Rio Rancho Observer - 2012
The red-granite monument is a gift from the veterans assistance organization "What Would u Give" to the MIlitary Order of the Purple Heart (MOPH) Chapter 176 in thanks for the chapters help. It's at the Rio Rancho Veterans Monument Park on Pinetree Rd. Chartered by congress in 1959, The Military Order of the Purple Heart is composed of military men and women who received the Purple Heart Metal for wounds suffered in combat.

In a ceremony Saturday, What Would U Give? founder and veteran Shane D’Onofrio was scheduled to officially present the monument to the Purple Heart chapter. Chapter members have been providing food, clothes, help at the homeless shelter and other support for the veterans under the care of the assistance organization, D’Onofrio said. “Some of these guys served 50, some 60, years ago, and they’re still serving today,” he said. Affordable Markers in California, agreed to make the monument. The company paid the $25,000 cost, from cutting the granite to shipping.
It was an honor to be able to donate this monument to Military Order of the Purple Heart Chapter 176.
